Lac-Tremblant-Nord is an important wilderness ecosystem surrounded by frenetic development in the adjacent communities

The watersheds of Lac-Tremblant-Nord have important topographical, ecological and heritage features. The mountains, mature forests, wetlands, streams, lakes, and abundant flora and fauna form a vital ecosystem. This is a priority area for wildlife movement and is part of the Mont-Tremblant to Oka eco and wildlife corridors in the conservation plan of Quebec.

Our vision for what might be possible

Our vision for what might be possible

When the Municipality of Lac-Tremblant-Nord was formed in 1915, the waterfronts of Lac Tremblant, Lac Bibite and Lac Gervais were carved out of the crown's landholdings and sold to buyers who wished to build country residences on waterfronts in the wilderness. However, the crown, together with the Lac-Tremblant-Nord municipality, remain as owners of close to 70% of the land, almost all of which is untouched wilderness. In addition to the public wilderness, some of the private lots in the Lac Tremblant region extend far back from the waterfront, even up mountain sides and over the ridges and summits. The hinterland beyond the waterfronts of these properties are untouched wilderness and are prime candidates for the conservation ambitions of Les Amis de Lac-tremblant-Nord.. The land areas in white on the schematic show the potential for wilderness conservation if all of Lac-Tremblant-Nord's public and private hinterland wilderness was to be formally conserved as an ecologically important wilderness reserve. Bringing this to reality is our vision.
